MTS aims to ignite the lifelong love of performing arts and promote valuing creativity, community, and artistic excellence.
Musical Theatre Southwest is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the cultural landscape of Albuquerque, New Mexico and surrounding areas.
Musical Theatre Southwest envisions a vibrant and inclusive community where the power of the stage inspires and connects people of all ages and background. We strive to be the hub of creativity, collaboration and professional level performing while embracing the cultural blend of our city. We aim to create unforgettable theatrical experiences that leave a lasting impact on our audiences and empower aspiring artists to join us, on and behind the stage.
We are devoted to the inclusion of all people and do not discriminate due to race, gender, age, religion, sexual orientation, disability and/or background. We are constantly striving to increase representation of all communities in our theatre. We do this by networking, increasing MTS’ visibility around Albuquerque and in 2023, joining the Hispano Chamber of Commerce.
We tell authentic, underrepresented stories which make us stronger and more empathetic to the world.

Cultivate Creativity by providing a welcoming and nurturing environment where artists of all ages and backgrounds can develop their talents in acting, singing, dancing, and production skills.
Inspire and Entertain by producing high-quality musical theatre productions that captivate and engage our diverse community, offering a wide range of theatrical experiences that inspire and provoke thought. Explore, encourage, and produce new and lesser-known works to perform in our theatre.
Foster Inclusivity by striving to be an accessible organization, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to participate in and enjoy the arts, regardless of socioeconomic status, ethnicity or ability.
Educate and Mentor by offering educational programs and mentorship opportunities that empower emerging artists and enrich the knowledge and appreciation of musical theatre in our community for children, youth, and adults.
Support the Arts by collaborating with local artists, businesses and organizations to strengthen the arts ecosystem in Albuquerque and contributing to the cultural and economic vitality of our region.
To deliberately perform at least one main stage productions each season that tell authentic, and underrepresented stories because representation is essential
To partner with local nonprofits that help underserved communities for all of our main stage productions
To donate a portion of our ticket sales to these nonprofits to invest in their services for our community
To invite disadvantaged members of our community to see our main stage productions for free on preview nights.
To increase our educational outreach in a way that is affordable and accessible for all backgrounds
To offer apprenticeship opportunities to learn through experience the different fields of musical theatre
To encourage everyone at MTS to share their personal pronouns in their email signatures, on applications, and when introducing themselves to new people
To recognize the wide array of genders in our world, and continue to update our audition forms to better represent this beautiful tapestry of life
An ever-growing bond with the community is what has made Musical Theatre Southwest what it is today—a theatre built on a foundation of presenting Broadway-style musicals to families in New Mexico and across our nation. Musical Theatre Southwest has continued to grow by embracing change, overcoming challenges and a belief in honoring the past but always looking forward. From our humble beginnings as a small and fledgling community theatre, we have helped bring laughter, drama and the best voices of New Mexico to our stages.
